Building Department

Building70781137dt1000x597The Building Department is responsible for oversight and inspection of all construction and development in the City of Oak Park. This includes enforcement of building codes relating to building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work. Permits are required for many types of building projects including, but not limited to, the following: new construction, building additions, structural alterations, fire suppression, demolition, swimming pool installation, sheds, and decks. Through the inspection process, the Building Department is able to ensure that all structures meet public safety, health and welfare requirements. If you are unsure that a permit has been issued or if a permit is required, please contact us. The Building Department also provides business license inspections and support to the Building Board of Appeals.

Advantages in Obtaining Building Permits

One of the benefits of permits is that it involves the services of a professional inspector who approves each phase of the construction process which results in a safe, accurate and complete process.
