The Building Department is responsible for oversight and inspection of all construction and development in the City of Oak Park. This includes enforcement of building codes relating to building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work. Permits are required for many types of building projects including, but not limited to, the following: new construction, building additions, structural alterations, fire suppression, demolition, swimming pool installation, sheds, and decks. Through the inspection process, the Building Department is able to ensure that all structures meet public safety, health and welfare requirements.
